South Carolina man arrested for DUI, assault

A South Carolina man was recently arrested after authorities claim that he assaulted a state trooper. In addition to the assault charge, he has also been accused of DUI. It is unclear what led police to determine that the driver had been operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

During a traffic stop, a local state trooper had the driver exit his vehicle. Although it was not immediately apparent as to why, the trooper began to place the driver under arrest. At that point, he claims that the driver retaliated, and the two became involved in a physical scuffle.

At some point during the incident, the trooper further claims that the driver drew a firearm and fired at him. After that, the driver ran, but was ultimately caught. In addition to the accusation of DUI, in total he has been charged with possessing a weapon during a violent crime, being an unlawful person in possession of that weapon and also resisting arrest.

When in combination with other charges, South Carolina drivers who have been accused of DUI may feel overwhelmed when it comes to fighting the charge. However, with so many individuals in South Carolina relying on personal vehicles to transport them to and from jobs or even to the grocery store, paying particular attention to this charge in order to avoid a suspended license can be of vital importance. Alongside their counsel, defendants may carefully review the charge against them, as well as any related evidence — such as a Breathalyzer test or even the results of a field sobriety test — in order to proceed in such a manner that garners the best outcome possible for them. While some might benefit most from a plea deal that may provide them with lessened charges, others may choose to fight the charge to its fullest extent throughout the entirety of trial court proceedings.
