South Carolina teenager charged with felony DUI

All charges that involve drinking while driving are serious and should not be taken lightly. These charges become even more serious when an individual faces not only a drunk driving charge but also felony DUI charges. A felony DUI charge can result from a few different situations. Some of these may include allegations of a high blood alcohol content, severe bodily injury caused to another or the unfortunate situation in which another is fatally injured. All of these situations must be handled very carefully and with a rigorous, experienced defense.

A South Carolina teenager has recently found himself in this very position where a strong and experienced defense will prove to be helpful. The 18-year-old was driving down the highway just before 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon. According to authorities, the young man crossed the middle line and collided with a van holding five people.

Authorities transported the 18-year-old and the passenger in his car to the hospital. Additionally, authorities took four of the five individuals in the other vehicle to the hospital. Unfortunately, the fifth person in that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

A few hours after his admission to the hospital, officials took the 18-year-old to a detention center. His bond was set at over $50,000.

As can be understood from this scenario, these types of situations should not be brushed off or taken lightly. Such a situation requires an experienced attorney who will provide a strong defense of the accused's case. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, and everyone is also entitled to rights under the United States Constitution. A defense attorney will ensure that those rights have been and continue to be upheld. If they are not, action will be taken to mitigate the consequences accordingly.
