South Carolina tractor driver arrested, charged with DUI

Residents of South Carolina may believe that even if alcoholic beverages have been consumed, it is safe to drive anything that is not a motorized vehicle typically driven on the roadways. However, this is not the case. DUI charges can result when individuals are behind the wheel of motorized vehicles other than a car, truck or semi.

A South Carolina man was recently charged with a DUI while behind the wheel of a tractor. The man was driving the tractor at approximately 1:30 a.m. A trooper noticed the man driving the tractor near the interstate and stopped him.

Oftentimes individuals make decisions without realizing the potential negative consequences. The South Carolina man may have thought driving the tractor was legal or may have simply failed to fully consider the implications of his actions. However, no matter what the situation, everyone is entitled to have a defense attorney who will fight for that person’s rights.

In South Carolina, drivers facing drunk driving charges could have their driver’s licenses suspended. On a first offense, the automatic suspension period is six months, and the term increases with repeat offenses. In addition to license suspension, the other consequences of a DUI charge can be severe. However, the defendant should not feel hopeless or intimidated by the prosecution, authorities and their strategies.

A strong DUI defense can help to ensure that the outcome of a DUI charge or conviction is as fair as possible. Depending on the specific facts, DUI defense attorneys are often able to obtain a reduction of charges, mitigated sentencing or a complete dismissal of the charges.
