18-year-old in South Carolina charged with felony DUI

Sometimes drivers get behind the wheel after they have consumed too much alcohol to legally operate a motorized vehicle. Sometimes this happens as an honest mistake; the driver may not realize how much the alcohol is impacting both their judgment and senses. Unfortunately, these accidents can often have serious or even fatal results. When this happens, the driver may face felony DUI charges.

Take, for example, an 18-year-old boy in South Carolina who recently was indicted by a grand jury for felony DUI after a car accident that caused fatal injuries to one person and non-fatal injuries to others. The 18-year-old was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound when he crossed over the median into oncoming traffic. According to South Carolina patrols, the man struck a van that was headed south.

One passenger in the van suffered fatal injuries while four other passengers were sent to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. The 18-year-old and his passenger also had to be taken to a medical facility for treatment of their injuries.

When a driver is facing charges and the potential conviction for a felony DUI, the circumstances can seem dire and hopeless. However, it is important for the defendant to remember that, although this was an unfortunate situation for those that were injured in the accident, the defendant is also entitled to a rigorous defense to ensure protection of their rights.

There are experienced attorneys in South Carolina that work with those that are facing difficult times after being charged with felony DUI. These attorneys will investigate the facts, review the search and seizure process and analyze the prosecution's case. There may be a way to reduce the nature of the charges or obtain a case dismissal or acquittal. Felony DUI convictions can be accompanied by serious consequences and a zealous defense will do whatever is possible to ensure that these consequences are mitigated as much as possible.
