South Carolina police officer charged with DUI in police cruiser

In every state across the country, the legal age to consume alcoholic beverages is 21. However, as most residents of South Carolina are likely aware, it is not legal to get behind the wheel of a motorized vehicle after consuming enough alcohol to bring the driver's blood alcohol content up to 0.08 or higher. If an individual operates a vehicle with this much alcohol in their system and they are either pulled over or get into a car accident, it is highly likely that they will be charged with DUI.

A South Carolina police officer who was off duty, but was still traveling in a police cruiser was pulled over and arrested shortly after 3:30 in the morning when a nearby resident reported the vehicle's suspicious activity to authorities. A deputy reported to the scene of the alleged suspicious vehicle and according to his report, he saw a Ford Crown Victoria driving in circles in the parking lot of Kent's Korner. The car allegedly traveled behind the building and parked amongst the dumpsters.

The deputy approached the vehicle and the 30-year-old driver told him that he was a police officer and that the vehicle was a police cruiser. The deputy arrested the man for drunk driving and he was taken to the local Detention Center.

This case is still under investigation. However, as soon as an individual is charged with a crime it is important that they seek the necessary help to ensure they have someone on their side advocating for their rights. If a defendant does not have an advocate, they are likely to end up suffering much more severe penalties.

In addition, when an individual is facing DUI charges there is a possibility for a significant negative impact on their career. An experienced DUI defense attorney may be able to successfully minimize the negativity of any consequences and in turn, the impact on the defendant's life and career.
