Man facing felony DUI charge after mother of two dies in accident

As readers of this blog are aware, when an individual is pulled over for suspicion of drunk driving the consequences can have a lifelong negative impact if charges result in conviction. Readers are also likely aware that accidents can occur as a result of drunk driving and the resulting injuries, if any, can vary quite drastically in severity. When an involved party suffers severe or fatal injuries, there may then be felony DUI charges issued against another involved party.

A 20-year-old South Carolina man has found himself in this situation. His involvement in an accident that occurred around 6:15 on a Sunday morning has left him accused of driving while intoxicated and facing a felony DUI charge.

The man was driving his vehicle eastbound when he allegedly swerved into the other lane and struck another oncoming vehicle. The woman driving the other vehicle, a 27-year-old mother of two, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

An accident that results in felony DUI charges is unfortunate for everyone that is involved and all their loved ones. In this man's case, if convicted of felony DUI he could face very serious penalties that could potentially have a negative impact on the rest of his life.

Although a driver that is charged with felony DUI may initially feel like it is a hopeless situation, that is not always the case. There are experienced felony DUI defense attorneys in South Carolina that can put forth the best possible defense.

Once a defense attorney is brought into the picture, they will investigate the facts in a very detailed manner and review the defendant's arrest to determine whether any of the individual's constitutional rights were violated. All of this information will be used in an effort to obtain either a reduction in charges, a dismissal of the case or other more positive outcome than was likely initially expected by the defendant.

Nobody condones drunk driving, and the death that resulted from this case is a tragedy. However, every accused person is entitled to a defense and a presumption of innocence.
