South Carolina man facing felony DUI charges after car accident

When a resident of South Carolina is pulled over for suspicion of drunk driving, it is very likely that they will find themselves facing criminal charges. This is almost always a scary situation but a driver charged with a DUI may not even realize the full extent of the potential consequences. Depending upon the circumstances surrounding the charges, these penalties may include the loss or suspension of professional licenses, loss of driving privileges for an extended period of time, loss of a commercial driver's license, jail time, monetary fines and more.

A South Carolina man that was recently involved in a single-car accident is facing the unfortunate situation of DUI charges that have manifested as a felony rather than a misdemeanor. This can happen in any number of situations but most often occurs when an accident results in severe bodily harm or death to another individual.

According to reports, this South Carolina man was driving his vehicle with one passenger inside when his car hit the median and then swerved off the road causing the vehicle to strike a tree around 10:00 in the evening. His passenger was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The 22-year-old driver was charged with felony DUI and driving without a license.

At first glance this situation may sound hopeless. However, according to reports regarding the accident the weather conditions were poor on the night of the accident. It has not yet been determined whether those conditions played a part in the car accident. These are the types of factors that can play into the defense strategy if an experienced and rigorous DUI defense team is hired. An attorney will do their best to prevent a conviction for the alleged criminal behavior by analyzing the evidence and negotiating the most positive outcome possible for the defendant.
