South Carolina woman facing three felony DUI charges

In almost all cases a DUI charge is a difficult legal matter. However, that difficult legal matter becomes much more serious when an accident or other alleged drunk driving incident results in felony DUI charges.

A felony DUI can result from an accident involving a drunk driver, but that does not always have to be the case. When a driver has a history of driving while intoxicated, he or she can be charged with felony DUI if there is video evidence poor performance on field sobriety testing or a Breathalyzer or other test resulting in a high blood alcohol content. The former situation was true for a woman in South Carolina who is facing three DUI charges after a serious car wreck.

According to reports, the 28-year-old woman was driving a truck when she failed to stop at a stop sign posted at an intersection. She struck another vehicle. Two of the individuals in the other vehicle were fatally injured, while others that were in the vehicle also suffered injuries.

The woman has been charged with one count of driving while intoxicated resulting in severe bodily harm and two counts of driving while intoxicated resulting in death. All three of these drunk driving charges are classified as a felony rather than a misdemeanor.

All drunk driving charges come with the possibility of serious penalties, but the penalties associated with a felony DUI conviction are more severe than those that accompany a misdemeanor. Those that are facing felony DUI charges would likely experience some advantages by speaking with an experienced drunk driving defense attorney.

An experienced DUI defense attorney will provide a rigorous defense by investigating the facts and evidence as well as the manner of any search and seizure and the prosecutor's claims regarding the case. These strategies can lead to a better outcome for the defendant than they may have initially expected.
