Man from South Carolina was drunk during wrong-way accident

A man got onto the New York State Thruway going in the wrong direction, and he ended up causing a crash that left three people with injuries. The police are now reporting that the man, who is from South Carolina, was drunk when this accident took place, perhaps explaining why he was heading against traffic. They said that his BAC came in at .15, which is just under double the limit of 0.08.

The three people who were hurt are all expected to recover, as the injuries are not said to be life-threatening.

The accident happened right around 12:17 in the morning on Saturday, March 28. The driver who was going the wrong way was behind the wheel of a Chevy Astro van, and he slammed into both a Nissan Armada and a BMW 550i.

On top of the pending DUI charges, the man is going to face charges for having marijuana. The police apparently found some -- though not a large amount -- when they responded to the accident. Furthermore, he faces misdemeanor charges for unlicensed operation and charges for reckless endangerment.

The man is 29 years old.

Wrong-way accidents have become something of a trend in the area, with one taking place on Feb. 28 and another happening on March 16. The February incident even lead to the death of a police officer.

When drunk driving charges are combined with a string of other charges, sorting through all of your legal options can be complex and difficult on your own. Make sure that you know exactly what rights you have and what options you can utilize as the case moves forward.
