Resolution sought by family after death in crash

When there is a car accident, the most tragic result possible is the death of an innocent person. Sometimes, even a year or more later, relatives of the victim can still be seeking healing and resolution. That is the case with a South Carolina family, the mother of whom was killed in a car accident last year.

The daughter of the woman who died said that although she has forgiven the driver, she still needs resolution in the case. The accident happened on Feb. 16, 2014, and the victim suffered multiple injuries because of it that proved to be fatal.

The accident occurred when the driver was traveling south on Bozard Road and went through a stop sign. He then took the 2009 Pontiac four-door that he was driving over Highway 301 and off the roadway. He then smashed into an embankment and overturned the vehicle.

The driver, 53, was charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death last September. The victim's daughter says that the driver should acknowledge what he did.

The driver was recently served with an indictment by the First Judicial Circuit Solicitor's Office for reckless homicide. He and his attorney, appearing in the Orangeburg County General Sessions Court, formally requested a jury trial. That trial, according to Circuit Court Judge Ed Dickson, will take place the week of Oct. 26 or the week of Nov. 16. The family of the victim has spoken of their intention to be present at the trial.

Facing DUI charges can be frightening, but even more so when the charge is a felony. In order to begin working on your defense strategy as soon as possible, consider seeking the services of an experience of an attorney.
