Second DUI arrest for former Gamecock cornerback

Victor Hampton, who played cornerback for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks from 2011 to 2013, has been arrested again on charges of driving with a suspended license and driving under the influence.

The Columbia Police Department reported that the 24-year-old Hampton was stopped while allegedly driving a vehicle with only one headlight that was working. The arresting officer reported that he "detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from him." A field sobriety test was completed and the officer placed the former football player under arrest.

Hampton's first alcohol-related arrested was last year, when he was arrested for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, speeding and having an open container. The drunk driving charge, however, was later dropped by the prosecution.

The previous year, he was arrested after an altercation with his sister. She was also arrested. He was charged with disorderly conduct.

Hampton played during some of USC's most successful football seasons. In 2011, he was kicked off the team for violating the rules of the team, but five days later, he was reinstated.

An arrest for DUI can have serious consequences, and not just for a college football career. Drunk driving brings possible jail time, hefty fines and a loss in driving privileges. This is not a charge that is unbeatable in court, however. An attorney can challenge each part of the prosecution's case, from the vehicle stop to the field sobriety test to the blood alcohol content test and more. You and your attorney can determine which defense strategy should be used based upon the facts of your case.
