Man facing DUI charges for hitting daughter with minivan

Sometimes drinking and driving can have an impact that no one expected or intended. When this impact is tragic or catastrophic it is unfortunate for all parties involved, including the alleged drunk driver. Such a situation will often result in some form of DUI charges for the driver. Sometimes these charges manifest as a misdemeanor and sometimes as a felony. It all depends upon the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A South Carolina man has been charged with a crime for drunk driving after his actions allegedly led to injuries sustained by his daughter. According to authorities they responded to a home after they had received calls of a hit and run accident. Authorities state that the man had been driving while under the influence of alcohol and struck his daughter.

When police responded to the scene of the accident and walked up to the man's minivan, the man had allegedly moved from the driver's side to the passenger side. After blood alcohol testing revealed that the man's BAC registered at a 0.13, he told authorities that he had hit his daughter with his minivan but that it was an accident.

A situation such as this one is obviously tragic for many reasons. Not only has the man been charged with a crime that is accompanied by serious penalties if convicted, but he also is dealing with the injuries to his daughter. This is never easy for anyone that is involved. Like all drunk driving cases, the prosecution will do their best to obtain a conviction and, in some cases, make an example of a person facing these types of accusations.

An experienced drunk driving defense attorneys in South Carolina may be able to help defendants that are facing such accusations and dire circumstances. In some cases, an attorney may be able to negotiate a reduction in charges or a less punitive penalty for the alleged drunk driver.
