South Carolina mother facing charges for two counts of felony DUI

A tragic accident that recently occurred in South Carolina left two young children dead and their mother facing criminal charges. The mother was allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol and has now been charged with two separate occurrences of felony DUI resulting in fatal injuries.

According to reports, the 32-year-old woman was driving her Dodge Durango with a passenger and her two young children when she hit a sign at a church. That collision caused the vehicle to flip over and land on church property.

The woman's one-year-old daughter was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The four-year-old was transported to a nearby medical center where she was later pronounced dead as a result of the injuries caused by the crash.

The mother and the male passenger were transported to a medical center for treatment of their injuries, and she was then charged with the two counts of felony driving while intoxicated. She is being held on a bond of just over $50,000.

As residents of South Carolina read this story their initial reaction may be to feel awful for the little girls that tragically suffered fatal injuries as a result of this accident. However, it is important to remember that it is unknown whether a Breathalyzer test was administered but, either way, the mother is now dealing with the fear of criminal charges and the emotional hardship of losing two daughters.

Unfortunately, the court system and prosecutors will not likely have much sympathy for someone accused of driving under the influence and causing fatal injuries. Therefore, it is always important in situations like this for the defendant to involve an experienced drunk driving defense attorney in an effort to prevent the very serious penalties that could accompany a conviction.
